Fenix Manufacturing Solutions has a rich history. It traces its roots to the establishment of R. E. Phelon Company, Inc. in 1947 by Russell E. Phelon in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The growth of the company resulted in moving operations to an adjacent town, East Longmeadow, Massachusetts in 1951. The East Longmeadow facility served as Phelon’s primary manufacturing location for most of the next four decades.

In 1979 Russell D. Phelon “Dale”, son of the company founder, was running the company and moved Corporate Headquarters to Aiken, S.C. as part of a corporate restructuring that included the operating facility being expanded threefold to 150,000 square feet. The Aiken Plant was opened to serve a growing customer base located in the Southeast for engine electronics and fuel delivery systems, and had a sister operation in Lomira, Wisconsin, which served ignition customers in the Midwest.

R. E. Phelon Company (D.R.) S.A. Caribbean Operations was started in 1987. The successful custom manufacturing facility carried on developing and manufacturing innovative ignition systems for the outdoor power equipment industry, from garden tractors and lawn mowers, to weed trimmers and chain saws, and for mostly everything that utilizes a small gasoline engine.

Under Dale’s leadership Phelon became the dominant supplier of ignition products to the outdoor power equipment industry. In 2008, amid the housing bust and global economic upheaval that followed, Dale saw that the future of the Company required a change in business model. Phelon would no longer be successful as a single product supplier to the outdoor power equipment market. Building on the highly successful Caribbean Operation, Dale recruited a team to transform the Company into a globally competitive manufacturer.

Fenix Manufacturing Solutions is the result of change in vision that started in 2008. Fenix is no longer an ignition “products” Company. It is a world class manufacturing operation providing high quality cost effective solutions to any market.
